Financing or refinancing a mortgage in the United States is a paper-intensive process, especially when it comes to borrower disclosures. Wolters Kluwer Financial Services  has made the process “as easy as pushing a button” for its customers. By working directly with mortgage lenders Financial Services developed Disclosure Manager, a complete solution that automates the initial disclosure process from generation of compliance document packages and secure electronic document delivery to borrowers, to outsourced print and paper fulfillment. I just sat through a presentation of a practice management software application that transformed the way people worked and functioned. Innovation according to Wikipedia is the ”creation of better or more effective products, processes, technologies, or ideas that are accepted by markets, governments, and society.” It is interesting to note that innovation differs from invention where as the former is relating to use of a new idea or method and latter is the creation of the idea. A survey of more than 600 lenders in the mortgage market which was undertaken in April 2010 by Wolters Kluwer Financial Services found 76 percent were still relying on an inefficient paper-based method to process mortgages. The top reasons lenders had not implemented an electronic solution were security of borrower data, high implementation costs, and the potential impact to lending workflow. The OneFile mortgage workflow solution offered by Wolters Kluwer Financial Services helps lenders overcome all of these obstacles. Read further >

In 2008 Clay Shirky coined the phrase “It’s not information overload. It’s filter failure.” In 2011 this was reversed by Nicolas Carr stating: “It’s not information overload. Do you read from the cloud or from a physical document? It makes no sense to me to read technical information other than in the cloud or in digital format. I read an article and if it is of significance or educational value I can immediately copy, paste, forward, or file the article in my knowledge management system for future reference or use. John Barker

InContext Design’s Shelley Wood made a comment to my recent post about the eroding distinction between content and software. I had the privilege of attending a few years ago a training session in contextual design given by Shelley. Her comment on my post reminded me about the importance of contextual design in creating solutions for customers. So I thought it would make sense to write more comments about it here in this post. I must confess that I am a voracious reader. I regularly read e-mails and e-newsletters on my BlackBerry, as do many other smart phone users. I recently started reading books on the device – something I never expected to do – and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. While waiting for a delayed flight, I discovered that I didn’t have any traditional reading material with me and I didn’t want to buy any. I had heard about Kobo e-book reader for mobile devices and I thought this would be a good time to try it. Read further >
