Being Disconnected in a Connected World: Are You Prepared?

Written on November 07, 2011

I live in Connecticut and we were hit by a freak snowstorm on Oct. 29, with up to 18 inches of snow in some areas. I’m fortunate that I have power and heat, but as of Nov. 3, approximately 540,000 electric company customers still have no power. This situation, which follows a similar loss of power in August 2011 as a result of Hurricane Irene, made me think about ways to remain connected and productive. Read further >

Mark Dorman, President and CEO of Wolters Kluwer Law & Business (North America), recently participated in a media roundtable, part of Wolters Kluwer’s half-year results announcement. Dorman noted that “2011 will be seen as a watershed year.” Starting with the ‘Arab Spring‘ information flowed through the use of texting on mobile phones, photographs taken by mobile phones, and Twitter accounts that couldn’t be shut down. Events were incited, communicated, recorded, and directed by mobile technology. Read further >

Reflections on Electronic Devices at Conferences: Is Confidentiality on Your Mind?

Written on May 13, 2011

I recently attended the Third Annual National Institute on Internal Investigations conference in New York City sponsored by the American Bar Association and I was interested to see the variety of electronic devices in use. The audience of about 100 was composed of law firm attorneys, some government attorneys, corporate counsel, corporate compliance officers, and forensic accountants from across the United States. Has RSS Faded in Favor of Twitter?

Written on April 04, 2011

One way of aggregating news feeds for customers is through RSS feeds. RSS allows customers to pull content into one feed so that they can access a variety of resources in one place. I have an RSS feed through Google Reader, but I realized recently that I don’t look at it as much as I check Twitter. To be honest, I haven’t looked at Google Reader in months, and I’m trying to figure out why. Both require me to take some action in visiting the Web site, but it has become more routine to check Twitter at least once a day. I tend to forget to check Google Reader at all. Read further >

But without any real direction, how well can we create a community that our readers will want to be part of? I recently attended a webinar, sponsored by the American Society of Business Publication Editors, titled Leveraging the Power of B2B Social Communities, that provided some suggestions on how to manage a successful community.
